Tengku Rizki Aljupri

Jakarta

Hi, my name is Rizki Aljupri and I am currently pursuing a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree, with anticipated graduation date in December 2013, at Washburn University in Kansas, United States. I received my Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree with emphasis in Finance and Management also from Washburn University in 2012. I was born and raised in Jakarta, Indonesia.

When I was raised in Jakarta, I attended At-Taubah Pulomas Kindergarten, Al-Azhar 13 Rawamangun Kindergarten, Al-Azhar 13 Rawamangun Elementary School, Al-Azhar 12 Rawamangun Junior High, and Al-Azhar 1 Kebayoran Baru High School, before leaving for a one-year student exchange program in the United States with Nacel Open Door. In my teenage years, I was a varsity basketball player and held leadership positions as a class president in Junior High and student council president (OSIS) in High School. I was the youngest student who had ever been elected as a president in my school's history due to my status as a freshman at the time.

During my time in undergraduate and graduate schools, I held positions as a student senator of Washburn Student Government Association for four consecutive semesters, chapter president and treasurer of the Delta Chi Fraternity Washburn Chapter, and president of Muslim Student Association and Finance Society in my university. I was also a student body presidential candidate (the first international student who ever ran) in 2011 and recived 40% of the total votes. In the summer of 2010, I interned for Congressman Alm. CPS Massaid at the Indonesian House of Representatives, and that was the starting point of my interest in Indonesian politics. This summer, I am working as an intern at the American-Indonesian Chamber of Commerce in New York.

After graduation, I plan to run as an independent candidate for a senate seat at the Indonesian Regional Representative Council (DPD-RI) representing my beloved province, DKI Jakarta. The law requires me to collect 3,000 signatures along with a copy of identity cards from the residents of Jakarta, and fortunately my friends, family, and I were able to collect 4,000 supports. The general elections will be held in April, 2014. The reason why I want to run for public office is because I want to improve the living quality of many Indonesians, especially in the areas of education and health care. In my spare time, I like to play basketball and watch movies.
