The son of a Massachusetts chief justice, Matt Kafker is a community-minded individual who volunteers regularly at numerous Boston-area food banks, including Pine Street Inn, where he serves and delivers food once a week. Matt Kafker also has worked at the Open Door Food Pantry and volunteered more than 30 hours packaging and distributing nonperishables for the Greater Boston Food Bank.

In addition to his work with food banks, Matt Kafker has been involved in two Global Works Travel projects. He spent a week in Costa Rica diverting downpour away from an elementary school and one week in France rebuilding property and structures in public parks.

Matt Kafker graduated in 2015 from Concord, Massachusetts' Middlesex School, where he received numerous academic awards and was named a National AP Scholar in 2014. He scored perfect 5/5s on six of the nine AP exams he took in his graduating year and obtained 4/5s on the other three. He also earned recognition in French and physics as a recipient of the Rene N. Bourquin French Prize and the Andrew M. Dawson Physics Prize.
