Meico Whitlock is a digital communications consultant and Associate Director, Communications at the National Alliance of State and Territorial AIDS Directors (NASTAD).
At NASTAD, Meico is developing and executing a new strategy to improve NASTAD’s approach to communications with the health department HIV and hepatitis program leaders it serves in the U.S. and internationally. His vision is that NASTAD becomes the model for how U.S. health departments and ministries of health worldwide leverage information and communications technology to respond to HIV and hepatitis.
Meico also consults for projects such as AIDS.gov, a program of the Office of HIV/AIDS and Infectious Disease Policy (OHAIDP) at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). Meico works with AIDS.gov to increase access to federal HIV/AIDS programs, information, and policies by providing technical assistance on the use of new and emerging technologies to respond to the domestic HIV/AIDS epidemic.
He has served the nonprofit and public sectors for more than a decade by working to address a range of information and technology needs including website development, technical training, and planning for the use of emerging technologies such as new media.
Fueled by a passion for social change, Meico’s personal mission is to provide everyone an opportunity to live a healthy, productive life by connecting people, information, and technology.
Meico holds a Master’s Degree in Information from the University of Michigan with a specialization in Community Informatics and a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and Spanish from Morehouse College. He has lived and studied in South America and Spain, and currently lives Washington, D.C. He enjoys swimming, biking, running, great food, and live music.
