A British/Australian Chartering Managing Director Michael Watson has more than 30 years quality shipping experience beginning with 12 years as a shipbroker with major ship-broking houses, in Hong Kong, London and Korea, followed by 3 years in Hong Kong as General Manager of a medium ship-owner company responsible for managing their fleet of up to 20 vessels.
After 2 years in New Zealand as Managing Director for P & O Maritime Services, responsible for growing their Agency, Chartering and Ship-Management departments,
Michael Watson was appointed the General Manager for Chartering, Australian Wheat Board, Melbourne, (AWB) and became known as "Dr Wheat" during which time transformed shipments from FOB to CNF and changed the Chartering Division from a service department to a primary profit center for the company, responsible for more than 12 million tons p/a of grains from Australia and about 50 ships a month.
Michael F.Watson introduced and implemented strategies to ship cargoes of cement, coal, iron ore, logs and non- Australian grains on handy size to capsize tonnage to maximize profit for AWB chartered tonnage.
Thereafter, Michael joined the Hydra Group, with offices in Greece and Hong Kong, specialising in shipments of bulk commodities from Handy size up to Capesize, primarily within the Pacific /China/Australasia regions.
Michael Watson is an experienced manager, with extensive Asia, International and Australian experience, with a proven history of achieving profit.
