Miguel Brown

Westchester, New York

My name is Miguel Brown and I'm a Sophomore this year at Westchester Community College in Valhalla, New York. I've recently transferred from Binghamton University where I maintained a 3.4 GPA and began studying psychology with an interest in adolescent development. In 2012, I graduated Fox Lane High School with Honors recognition.

I've had extensive work experience at the Boys and Girls Club of Northern Westchester, where I discovered a passion in childcare and developed an ability to work with all kinds of people. My job requires I carefully manage documents within my assigned group of children ranging from ages 5 to 11. In the past two years I've been promoted from assistant counselor to co-head, and finally an independent head counselor.

This past February, I was hired by Westchester's Super Soccer Stars. It's a more independent type of childcare that is meant to foster something specific within the children. After just four weeks I've been promoted to a higher level of coaching.

I've just returned from a "gap-semester" abroad in Ecuador where I spent time learning Spanish, volunteering daily, and meeting and living with family. I plan on doing a similar semester in Ireland next year.

I believe I would benefit both the people I’d work with and the supervisors I’d be serving, consistently trying to make an impact in the workplace and the lives I’d become a part of. I enjoy working with and around others, which I consider a skill that proves useful in any field of work. I’d definitely say I’m a quick learner and I’m always up for new experiences and environments. I'm Spanish-proficient, CPR/RTE certified, and eager to expand my horizons.
