Monika L. Woodard

My name is Monika Woodard. I am a third year law student at St. Thomas University School of Law in Miami, Florida, where I am a founding member and managing editor of the Journal of Complex Litigation, competitive member of the Moot Court Honor Board, school representative serving on the Board of Governors for the Florida Bar Association YLD Law Student Division and one of six student chosen for the school's prestigious appellate litigation clinic, among other things. I am also a member of the Inns of Court chapter in Miami-Dade county. I am a North Carolina native and a graduate of Western Carolina University. I additionally studied for two years at Tennessee Temple University where I was a member of the basketball and volleyball teams. I also served as a student scholar in the International Scholar Laureate Program Delegation on Diplomacy in Sydney, Australia. Before law school, I served in professional and management roles for a public relations company and a country club, and earlier worked as a legal assistant for a law firm and as a legislative and legal intern for North Carolina State Representative Phillip R. Haire.

I am interested in a legal career in appellate litigation. My interests include federal law, constitutional law, corporate law and criminal law but many other areas are of interest to me as well. I look forward to learning more about the wide range of opportunities available to law graduates.

I have had the opportunity to serve as a guest speaker at both Western Carolina University and Georgetown Law School. My comment, Ghosts Have Rights Too! Third Party Invocation into Forum Selection Clauses was published by the St. Thomas Law Review in September, 2014. Along with my sister, we founded the Regina Foundation, a non-profit organization set up to educate the public about Multiple Sclerosis and hopefully push research for a cure. Outside of work, my interests and activities include music, Shotokan and Kenpo martial arts, running, cycling and most outdoor activities.
