Nathanael Bassett

Nathanael Bassett is a graduate student in the Media Studies Program at the New School. He has a BA in Mass Media from Missouri State University.

Nathanael has had a lifetime interest in media creation and analysis, from being a co-editor of Gateway Community College's student newspaper to the present. His experience includes social media outreach for Democracy Now! and Captured Times Productions, new media production for Missouri State University, as well as consulting for PrisCo Consulting LLC and multimedia production for Rare Breed Youth Services.

Nathanael is also interested in public art that functions as civic media. In Spring of 2012 he worked with the interns of Youth Rights Media to develop Remember Me: Municipal Memorials, a public art project that emphasized the humanity of New Haven's victims of homicide from the preceding year. He has also worked on other small scale sound constructions and experimental videos with the goal of developing innovative media on complex social and philosophical issues.

His interests include virtual community, identity and rhetoric, political and rhetorical hierarchies of such communities, media literacy and civic or citizen media. He is also interested in the emergence of new political myths via digital media.
