J. Nigel Ellis

A noted author and fall protection expert, J. Nigel Ellis has penned numerous articles and books on fall protection and workplace safety. Most recently, he authored an article for the Professional Safety Journal, a publication of the American Society of Safety Engineers, detailing his safety recommendations for climbing stairs, ladders, and step bolts. J. Nigel Ellis further built his reputation as an industry expert through his authorship of the textbook Introduction to Fall Protection. The book, which has gone through four editions, has become the standard introductory text for the fall protection industry.

In addition to his contributions to the industry as a writer, Dr. Ellis provides a wide range of consulting, engineering, and safety training services through his company, Ellis Fall Safety Solutions. During his long career, he has shared his expertise with some of the world’s largest corporations, including Wal-Mart, General Electric, and ALCOA. He and his Firm have also consulted with government agencies such as NASA and the Federal Aviation Administration. He is a speaker at the International Society for Fall Protection Symposium in Las Vegas speaking about human factors in fall protection and dynamic grip limits for ladders and grab bars commonly known as Three Point Control for climbers in industry and construction and for heavy equipment.

Outside his professional life, Dr. Ellis studies topics such as astronomy and the history of safety. Devoted to staying fit, he enjoys exercising and following a healthy diet.
