Nino Locke born Michael Locke Jr. is a Philadelphia native. Nino began singing and performing at age five. Nino competed at his first competition at The Performing Arts Alliance where he took 1st place. Nino was interviewed for Power 99 FM where he sung live during the interview. Nino wanted to audition at the World Famous Apollo Theatre.
Taking the titles of “Top Dog” & “Super Top Dog” of the year. He was also invited to perform during a taping of NBC’s “It’s Showtime at the Apollo”. Nino was seen by a talent agent during his last performance at the Apollo Theatre earning a contract with Shirley Grant Management. At that time he was invited to audition for “The Lion King” on Broadway. In between auditions for The Lion King, Nino performed at many charity events.
Nino has worked on Chuck E Cheese commercials, Participated in a Tribute to Nina Simone with Philadelphia’s own Tiffany Bacon, performed at the Puerto Rican parade, worked with Poet Craig Anthony, and numerous other events. Nino also began work in the studio recording his vocals for the first time. At the beginning of 2005 Nino was offered the Principal role of Young Simba in Disney’s The Lion King on Broadway. He traveled the United States going to 14 different cities with the West Coast Cheetah Tour during his two year span with the company. Nino worked with The East Coast Gazelle Tour and the On Broadway cast of The Lion King as well.
Nino has recently been focusing on his schooling and recording his music. Having his first single “Girl U Know” in rotation on several radio stations around the country and picked up on Music Choice. Nino has performed with the CAPA Concert Choir for the past four years, having performed for President Obama this past September, Philadelphia’s City Hall Christmas Tree Lighting, Messiah and many other performances. Nino sang our National anthem for opening ceremonies at the 1st Annual 5k run at Villanova University for Security on Campus. Nino’s main focus is composing, producing, writing and recording his music . He spends most of his time in the studio. He mentors and walks fellow musicians through the ins and outs of the studio. He has also started recording other artists in his own studio.
