Chris Murphy
New York City
Tattoos and tattooing have always been a fascination of mine. My father, Tommy Murphy, has been tattooing for 23 years, so I was in tattoo shops before it was legalized in NYC. I have seen the industry and clientele change over a few short years as the popularity and social acceptance of tattooing has grown. I started my apprenticeship at Mean Street Tattoo under Johann Florendo and my father in 2009 and continue to work with them today. In my infinite quest to further my knowledge and wisdom I have begun working under Adam Hays and Mike Bellamy, alongside the Red Rocket Tattoo crew. They have been like an adoptive family and continue to help and teach me more. Being surrounded by so many people who are so passionate about what they do has been so informative and inspiring . I am beyond blessed to have so many talented artists with amazing attitudes in my life and I am grateful everyday for the opportunities I have been given.
I take pride in every tattoo I am given the opportunity to do, I believe it is an honor for someone to pick and trust you to tattoo them. The ability to turn someone's ideas or story into a permanent piece of art they can take with them anywhere is a power that no other art form allows. From small simple tattoos to complex ones that take multiple sessions to complete, I take the same approach in everything I do. I would like to be well rounded in all genres of tattooing and don't want to be stuck with only one main speciality. I just love tattooing, so no matter what the subject matter is as long as my hands are busy I am happy.
