Octavius L. Blount
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States
Passionate African American male Who is passionate about seeing the youth of today leave footprints that will lead them to a BRIGHT FUTURE that will help them succeed. Octavius lives by "everyone has the potential to succeed but not all have the opportunities to succeed" He wants to be that role model, mentor, pathfinder, or resource to guide the youth of all races to a future that reflects their passion and skill.
Octavius is educating himself towards changing the statistics and research reported by many scholars which expresses that "black men's dismal college enrollments, disengagement and underachievement and low rates of baccalaureate degree completion are among the most depressing and complex issues in American higher education' As well as changing that there is an approximate "54% of African Americans graduate from high school and black males ages 18 and older make up just 5.5% of all college students. Of the young black males who do make it to college, only one in six will receive a college degree".
I want all BLACK BOYS AND YOUNG MALES to know that they are BLACK, UNIQUE, POWERFUL, SPECIAL, LEADER, SUCCESSFUL, BUILT TO LAST, and lastly "It is easier to build strong children than it is to repair broken men" - Frederick Douglass
