Olin West MD
Former Psychiatrist Olin L. West, MD, has shown dedication to helping and serving others in his professional life and in his retirement. For nearly 25 years, he kept a private psychiatric practice in New York and Virginia while maintaining a wide array of outside positions. Board-certified in alcohol counseling and psychodrama, a method of psychotherapy that utilizes guided dramatization to examine issues, Olin L. West, MD, helped numerous patients work toward personal growth and emotional stability. Olin L. West, MD, earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Princeton University, and he received his Doctor of Medicine from Columbia University. Upon completion of his internship at Columbia, Dr. West concluded a psychiatric residency at St. Luke’s Hospital Center in New York. Subsequently, he became an Associate Attending Physician at St Luke’s (now known as St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital Center), where he remained until retirement. During his tenure, Dr. West directed a major expansion of the Psychiatric Day Treatment Center. In addition, Olin L. West, MD, worked at Four Winds Hospital in Katonah, New York, where he led several programs, including psychodrama and related training. In 1983, Olin L. West, MD, became a Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association (APA). For many years, he served as a Consulting Editor for the medical journals Hospital and Community Psychiatry, as well as Group Psychotherapy, Psychodrama, and Sociometry. A past Chairman of APA Task Force on Partial Hospitalization, he also led the Committee on Partial Hospitalization and Other Transitional Facilities. Moreover, he holds the title of diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Recently, Dr. West has actively participated in his community. He belongs to the Better Business Bureau and the National Ethics Association, and he volunteers for the International Rescue Committee.
