Long weekends walking the Chaco Canyon Ruins make for terrific story characters and great backdrops. Sleeping in the open with the Milky Way as his night light, Oliver recalled the ancient contemporaries of the Anaszi Indians and Zhou Dynasty. As with all good things, Oliver moved on and never returned to either the Checkerboard Reservation or to Honolulu. He spent the next four years as a cop and twenty more in the FBI.

Six novels, dozens of short stories, Oliver Chase and his wife settled on a small urban farm along Mississippi’s Gulf Coast. He finds great flying weather for his little Grumman Tiger, plenty of time to write, and friendly neighbors to share a story. Sometimes in the early morning with his coffee in hand, he wonders about his former students and recalls frigid nights and proud people. He wishes them well.
