Have you ever been in an online forum or group and received a strange message from someone asking how old you are and where you live?
The issue of online predators has become a real threat in today's society, most would think that society would be separate from the internet, but in this technologically advanced era, going wireless is the new society, just like every society, however, there are still predators lurking in every forum - not unlike real life there are always individuals who pose a threat. This campaign aims to help eliminate the cases of people who are preyed on and exploited by these types of people, together we can make a difference and keep the internet a safer place for everyone, along with learning how to be wary of strangers online.
How can YOU become more aware of the dangers of online predators online and help prevent the continuation of these actions from occurring?
You can click the button above to back my campaign. Which sends you to an amazing place called "A Predator in my phone", this site is aimed to help people who are harassed online by a predator and gives them access to the proper channels in order to get the assistance they require.
The sites which are linked provide additional information as well as a perspective on what online predators do. The twitter account linked is for an online organization known as "Teensafe", which is the twitter page of an app which helps parents "safeguard their children" from online threats via monitoring.
The second source is a Youtube video from the incredible minds at Ted Talks, which feature a segment talking about online predators which affect one woman in a way that changed her life forever, entitled "Sexual predators edited my photos into porn - how I fought back | Noelle Martin | TEDxPerth" There is a focus on women within the video, however, the message can be applied to anyone who has been affected by something of this manner with online predators and could happen to anyone.
The third resource which I have linked is a Wikipedia page with the definition of online predators which explain in detail what an online predator does, who they usually target, where they usually lurk and other engaging material to better educate about this subject.
The purpose of this campaign is to simply make people aware of the dangers of meeting people online; to know how to protect yourself from these types of people and raise awareness
