BIOGRAPHY
Onno Michiel Mets, the author of this thesis, was born on June 5th, 1984 in Naarden, The Netherlands. He grew up in the village of Huizen, living with his parents and older brother. In 2002 he graduated cum laude from secondary school at the Goois Lyceum in Bussum, and in the same year he started his medical training at the University of Amsterdam. He started as a PhD-candidate at the department of Radiology in the University Medical Center Utrecht immediately after he obtained his medical degree in August 2009.
He performed research into the quantitative analyses of COPD and cardiovascular disease in lung cancer screening CT scans, supervised by dr. PA de Jong, dr. P Zanen, prof.dr. JWJ Lammers and prof.dr. M Prokop. In three years he wrote his thesis 'More than lung cancer: Automated analysis of low-dose screening CT scans' for which he received his PhD degree on October 16h, 2012.
His thesis was awarded the 'Best Thesis Award 2013' by the Image Sciences Institute of the University Medical Center Utrecht.
In January 2013 he has started his Residency in Radiology under supervision of dr. OM van Delden at the Academic Medical Center in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
Onno is married to Annemarie Op 't Land since October 1st, 2011. They live together in Amsterdam.
