Prior to opening her own firm, Patricia served as the Deputy Director
and Director of Leadership and Training at NALCAB, the National
Association for Latino Community Asset Builders. In her work with
NALCAB, Patricia collaborated with member organizations across the
country to increase access to capital for low-income Latino
communities. Mejia’s efforts developed and expanded programs to create jobs, develop
neighborhoods, and build family wealth. These efforts included assistance in securing 140 million
dollars, one of the nation’s single largest investments in Latino communities, from the Department
of Housing and Urban Development in 2010.
Patricia also led in the creation and implementation innovative programs within the organization,
such as regional and national conferences. Patricia developed NALCAB’s Colegio, a premiere
Community and Economic Development Fellowship, to nurture “next generation” leaders through a
nine-month program focused on personal leadership, advocacy, and the essential tools of
development.
In her previous work as Executive Director and Co-Founder of the 21st
Century Leadership Center at
St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, Texas, Patricia worked both locally and internationally with
cross cultural programs, as well as coached and trained numerous community, student, and
organizational leaders to utilize their own social and cultural capital to transform communities.
In 2007 she completed the Executive Leadership Program through the Kennedy School of
Government at Harvard University and the Center for Creative Leadership in San Diego, CA as a
National Hispana Leadership Institute Fellow. In 2006 she traveled to Bangladesh to learn more
intimately women’s leadership of microenterprise in developing countries. Additionally, Patricia has
traveled to Honduras, Turkey, Spain, and France to study faith-based development opportunities.
