PATRICK MARSTON

Having studied at the Pasadena Art Center College of Design and a background in graphic design, I have been painting oil on canvas for a little more than twelve years. The last three years have been focused on creating a prolific series of large paintings of beautiful goldfish.

“It is interesting to me that the fish is already a loaded icon; a symbol that has a rich history in many cultures and religions. Fish take on a divine quality, and they exist in water which in itself represents life force and spiritual purification. I chose the goldfish as my subject not only because of its inherent association with the historical context of the fish, but also because of a more basic psychological association. Goldfish are both whimsical and beautiful. They are so simple and yet subtly seem all-knowing and seem to exist constantly in the present as luminous fluid movement. It is my wish that these paintings bring the viewer to connecting with the Source that links us all. As we each continue to search for the Divine in our own unique ways, may we remember the fish and REVEL that we are swimming in It!"
