Patrick Van Amburgh is a New York certified, licensed school Guidance Counselor for grades 5-12. He has worked primarily in a high school setting, but has also worked with adults.
Patrick Van Amburgh began his higher education at Springfield College in Springfield, Massachusetts. He completed a Bachelor of Science in Psychology in 2003 and continued on in pursuit of a Master of Education at the same school. In 2005, Patrick Van Amburgh completed his Master of Education in Psychology and earned his accreditation as a Guidance Counselor.
Within three months of his graduation, Patrick Van Amburgh secured a position at Palmer High School in Palmer, Massachusetts. There, he served for several years as a High School Guidance Counselor, mediating students, faculty, and parents, as well as helping students prepare for their future goals through course selections and other processes, while fulfilling other academic and personal counseling services. Patrick Van Amburgh also served as a member of the high school's Crisis Team, 504 student evaluation team, and Individualized Education Program.
After leaving Palmer High School at the end of 2008, Patrick Van Amburgh spent the first half of 2009 working at SLS Health, a residential home in Brewster, New York for psychologically disordered adults. He provided counseling services, helped members prepare to reenter society, and oversaw general day-to-day activities such as personal care and medication management. Patrick Van Amburgh moved on to Wallkill Senior High School in late 2009, serving there as the In School Suspension teacher for 3 years. In this role, he oversaw students in trouble for minor offenses, ensuring they kept up with their studies, often working with them to prevent repeat offenses through positive strategies and daily discussion groups.
