Paula Wallace

Savannah, GA, US

Paula Wallace is Co-Founder and President of the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), a nonprofit, accredited, degree granting institution with locations in Savannah, Atlanta, Lacoste, France and Hong Kong as well as online.

Paula Wallace started her career as a teacher in Atlanta public schools. She then co-founded SCAD with a mission: to prepare talented students for successful careers in art and design.

SCAD has grown from 71 students in 1978 to 12,000 in 2014, from a handful of majors to more than 40, from one building to more than 100, many of them historic treasures masterfully restored to new life and new use by SCAD.

Paula Wallace held provost, vice president, and academic dean positions at SCAD before becoming president in 2000. Among her many innovations is the creation of Working Class Studio, a program in which SCAD students design new products and then manage manufacturing and distribution to major retail stores around the world.

A dedicated preservationist, Paula Wallace has initiated scores of historic building restoration projects for SCAD in the US, Europe and Asia. For example, a former department store is now a SCAD library.

Beyond these endeavors, Paula Wallace is the published author of interior design books including "Perfect Porches."
