Over the past 11 years I have fallen in love with competitive gymnastics and all it has taught me. From time management to perseverance, gymnastics has been a consistent, reliable educator as well as a loyal friend. Unfortunately, injuries come with the sport; they are inevitable. Indeed, I have definitely received my fair share of injuries ranging from menial sprained ankles to 9 different surgeries. Some would say that I am unlucky. I, however, would not call these instances unlucky, because each brought me in contact with doctors—with heros. Most people think doctors are Bob-the-Builder-like fixers who mend what is broken. But to me, they are life savers. After my seventh surgery, I realized that the doctors were doing more than putting me back together, they were giving me my life back. Every injury took me away from my sport—away from my passion. Every doctor had the opposite goal; they were going to do everything in their power to ensure my return to what I love: gymnastics. I want to have the power to give people their lives back. I want to be a doctor.
