Pepe Hidalgo

Boston, Massachusetts, United States

Pepe Hidalgo, born in 1991 in Santiago, Chile, started playing drums at the age of 8 when he received his first drum kit. He studied and played a wide variety of genres including Rock, Hip-Hop, Pop, Latin Pop, Progressive, Funk, R&B, Fusion, Bossa nova and Jazz.

As a teenager he formed a Metal Progressive band called Alter Ego, which placed first in two national band battles. At age sixteen he began taking classes with Cristobal Orozco (the drummer for Myriam Hernandez and Octopus), who inspired him to audition for Berklee College of Music. In 2011, Pepe opened for Dominic Miller, the guitarist of Sting, at the Nescafe Theatre of Arts in Chile.

Pepe is working on his Bachelor Degree at the Berklee College of Music as a performance major. While in Boston, Pepe has been playing all around the east coast with different artist like Stone Giant, Conrad Oberg, Underground Mantra, Light Bright, Kel, Pamela Steebler and more.

The opportunity to take lessons in New York City with one of Pepe’s idol drummers, Mark Guiliana (Gretchen Parlato, Avishai Cohen, Brad Meldhau), presented itself. Guiliana served not only as a mentor, but as an inspiration for Pepe’s ongoing career.
