I started my career in the late eighties for a UK software house. During my time there as an application programmer I used C and the Ingres RBDMS. I then worked in the systems team as a systems programmer and DBA for MS SQLServer, Oracle and Ingres. In the systems team I continued to develop software for internal use in C, Perl and VB. Work there included scaling Ingres installations to new heights.
In 2000 I moved on to a small EPOS software house and led the development of touch screen till and ordering systems running on Linux and MySQL. There my team had much 'fun' resolving data replication issues of data across dial up links.
In 2003 I set-up a database and software consultancy with a very talented colleague. Now we split our time between MS Windows, Linux and Embedded, working generally with software houses and companies with their own software development teams. We work with them to improve all aspects of their applications, focusing primarily on their interaction with their chosen database.
As for outside of work, I am a husband, Dad and active member of my local church. My hobbies include, Hill walking, Skiing, Badminton and Rock climbing. (One day, maybe, back to Ice climbing again.)
