Ping-Hsuan Wang
Writer, researcher, and Editor in Taipei, Taiwan
As a linguist in the workplace, I see language as a meaningful tool for effective communication. I continue my academic research while writing for the general public [e.g. Taiwan Pride in online comments]. Currently I work as a testing editor in Taipei, Taiwan for large-scale English proficiency tests.
With an undergrad major in English literature (2008-2012), I am also interested in teaching and learning English as a foreign language (EFL), comparative literature, and theater production. I taught EFL in Taipei (2012-2015, 2018-2020) and was certified at Georgetown University SCS in 2017.
My research interests include:
(1) online comments as a site of value perception and ideological contestation;
(2) narrative as a linguistic strategy in a political debate during Taiwan's 2016 presidential debate;
(3) gay immigrants' coming-out experience in the U.S.
(4) framing the social and gender roles in family mealtime conversations;
(5)time and place in narrative co-construction with Taiwanese-American family
