I am a 51 year old woman diagnosed with the terminal illness Pulmonary Fibrosis Sept. 18, 2009. After a six day hospital stay believing it was the flu my O2 saturation's fell and would not come back without oxygen. I left the hospital with oxygen and have been on it since. At the present time I am on 5ltrs with and without activity. It is believed to be that the Pulmonary Fibrosis is secondary to the Rheumatoid Arthritis. There is currently NO cure for Pulmonary Fibrosis only medications that sometimes help slow the progression, Pulmonary Fibrosis is scaring of the lungs making it hard to breathe with exertion and eventually even without exertion. The lungs become like concrete making the lungs stiff to the point where the elasticity no longer works. The Fibrosis usually begins in the lower lobes and works its way to the top basically smothering the person with it to death! We need more people to get involved with spreading the word of what PF is and can do to a person. It kills people. Transplants can help but not always and not all people with PF can have a transplant. I am one of those people. No one is a exempt to this devastating disease. There will be over 40,000 people that die this year From Pulmonary Fibrosis.
