Quiet Girl Creations
The Story of Quiet Girl Creations
I have been around sewing and crafting all my life. My great-grandmother would sit in her favorite chair watching her "programs" while she did all of the family's hemming, altering and mending by hand. Her daughter, my grandmother would spread her fabrics, trims and patterns out across the dining room and tackle the impressive task of redecorating rooms with new curtains, pillow cover and cushion covers. Her daughter, my mother, a single mother of two, would pull out her sewing machine every year and sew up Halloween costumes for my sister and me.
When I was a teenager, money for new, fashionable clothes was scarce and hand-me-down items were abundant! I soon picked up a needle and thread and started adding hand embroidered patches and wedges of fabric here and there to make them feel more my own. My grandmother surprised me one Christmas with a sewing machine of my own and soon I was churning out holiday stockings, curtains and fixing my own hems.
I dabbled in sewing here and there, but it wasn't until the birth of my daughter nearly 4 years ago that the bug really bit. Never having been a very feminine, "pink" girl myself I wanted to dress her in modern, neutral yet adorable clothes. And so I started buying modern, colorful fabrics and collecting patterns and tweaking them to suit my tastes.
I was introduced to knitting when I met my, now, husband. His grandmother and aunt are both incredibly skilled and talented knitters and I was smitten with their work. I secretly bought some yarn and a teach-yourself-to-knit book and with much practice, sweat and probably some tears I soon had learned the stitches and was off. Knitting stole my heart and I have spent the last 15 years perfecting my craft.
After much encouragement, support and some gentle prodding from my family and friends I decided to take on the challenge of selling my handmade items! I take pride in the quality and construction of my work and am so happy to offer you handmade items from my heart.
