Ragab Saad

Cairo, Egypt

Ragab has 10 years of experience in the nonprofit sector. He has focused throughout his professional career on the field of human rights, and he is deeply interested in the issues of democracy, human rights, and rule of law. In 2005,he was invited to join the Cairo Institute for Human Rights Studies (CIHRS), prominent Arab nonprofit based in Cairo with branch offices in Geneva and Tunisia.

As a senior researcher at CIHRS, Ragab participated in many research projects covering issues such as freedom of association, freedom of expression, election monitoring, Islamic law and human rights, and monitoring human rights abuses in Arab states such as Egypt, Sudan, Libya, Tunisia, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Morocco, and Bahrain. Ragab also participated in a research project that addressed the evolution of citizenship rights and democracy following the Arab Spring. CIHRS conducted this project in partnership with a group of prominent European think tanks and universities.

Since 2009 he has served as managing editor of the Rowaq Arabi journal, an academic periodical issued by CIHRS. He edited a book entitled "Religions and Freedom of Expression" and co-authored a book on how the programs of Egyptian political parties addressed freedom of expression and freedom of religion in the post-uprising era. He has published several articles in both English and Arabic.

As a publications officer, he reviewed and approved books by various influential authors in Arab region for publication. He also organized seminars and conferences on democracy and human rights in Egypt, Lebanon, Morocco and Denmark in cooperation with key Arab and European nonprofits.
