"God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference. Living one day at a time; enjoying one moment at a time; accepting hardships as the pathway to peace; taking, as He did, this sinful world as it is, not as I would have it; trusting that He will make all things right if I surrender to His Will; that I may be reasonably happy in this life and supremely happy with Him forever in the next. Amen." These are the words that Remayja has turned into a way of life. Wearing many hats, such as being a single parent, student, and teacher to name a few, finding peace of mind and being aware that balance of life is essential.
Currently enrolled at North Carolina Central University, Remayja is in her senior year of completing her Bachelor in Pharmaceutical Science. Although the road to getting to this point has been quiet a bumpy one, knowing that a college degree will open many doors for her and her son’s future, she continues to persevere to graduation, May 2016. After graduation Remayja plans on securing a job as a researcher at a pharmaceutical plant and hopes to return to North Carolina Central University within a year or two to obtain her Masters in Pharmaceutical Science.
Along with attending school, Remayja has maintained a career part-time with the City of Durham in Parks and Recreation for the past eight years. Starting as a lifeguard and moving her way up the ladder to a seasonal full-time employee. Receiving numerous certifications while working for the City such as Water Safety Instructor, Lifeguard Instructor, Certified Pool Operator, First aid and CPR allowed Remayja the opportunity to work for the Town of Chapel Hill as well as the City of Raleigh.
In the words of her grandmother, Remayja plans to “put in the work, to enjoy the reward!”
