She began her career as a graduate of the business administration program at Ohio's Central State University, where she focused her studies on marketing. Subsequently bringing this background into the beauty industry, Renell Shorter became an aesthetician and manager with Custom Eyes in Harper Woods, Michigan, in 2001.

While working with Custom Eyes, Renell Shorter earned her aesthetician's credential and license from Michigan College of Beauty. In 2007, she became aesthetician-owner of Lovely Lashes, where she provided skin care services and guidance. She then returned to school to study cosmetology at the Regency Beauty Institute, after which time she relocated to Texas.

In tandem with work as a stylist at Great Clips and Sport Clips, both of Plano, Renell Shorter opened her own business, Styles by The Lash Diva, where she provided style services and advice while guiding the business' growth. Using social media, live events, and other advertising channels, she effectively publicized salon services.
