Roman Miller
Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Peninsula NHS Treatment Centre in Plymouth, Devon, is Roman Miller. Roman has enjoyed a career spanning more than twenty years to date, beginning with his post-graduate training year at City Hospital in Poland after obtaining his Doctor of Medicine qualification. Over the years, Roman has gained experience in a number of roles and across a variety of well-respected hospitals and medical institutions. Throughout his career, he has focused on Orthopaedics and Trauma Surgery as his specialisation, building up his knowledge, skills and experience in order to achieve the prestigious position he holds today.
The responsibilities of Roman Miller at Peninsula include practicing as general orthopaedic surgeon with special focus in the areas of sports surgery, hip and knee arthroscopy and primary, complex primary and revision lower limb arthroplasty. Roman also takes responsibility for elective day surgery within his field of expertise and acts as on-call consultant on a rotation basis one week in every six, during which time he covers post-operative inpatient care at the hospital. In a typical year, Roman will see almost 4,000 patients to some degree, which figure includes between 200 and 250 primary and complex primary knee and hip replacements, between 400 and 450 minor and moderate day cases and over 3,000 outpatients.
In addition to his regular duties, Roman has successfully been approved to act as provider for the 2nd, 3rd and 4th year Special Study Unit medical students from Peninsula Medical College. This role sees Miller taking responsibility for guiding the students around the Peninsula NHS Treatment Centre, having face to face discussions on a regular basis and offering teaching sessions both within the clinic and in the operating theatre. Roman also contributes some of his time to the Bone and Joint Journal, acting as researcher, editor and member of the reviewer’s board as well as the registered Polish translator for the publication.
Roman Miller holds a PhD in Orthopaedics and MRCS and FRCS equivalent Specialist in Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgery gained during his years in Poland. His licence to practice was successfully re-approved this year and will be up for revalidation once more in October 2019.
