Throughout his life and career, clinical psychologist and program director Roque Gerald, Psy.D., has maintained involvement in a vast array of academic, professional, charitable, and personal endeavors, striving for excellence in each of his pursuits. A native of New York City, Roque Gerald earned his diploma from Jamaica High School before enrolling at the City College of New York. After receipt of his B.A. in Psychology, Gerald relocated to Virginia, where he gained invaluable field experience as a counselor and teacher for emotionally disturbed children, social worker for mentally retarded adults and children, protective service investigator, and mental health therapist in a number of other positions. In 1982, Roque Gerald began doctoral coursework at The Virginia Consortium for Professional Psychology, earning his Psy.D. four years later and subsequently launching his career as a clinical psychologist. Over the next several years, Roque Gerald held a variety of roles as an adjunct faculty member, consultant, psychologist, and clinical director, working for several universities, nonprofits, and government-run social welfare agencies, in addition to running a busy private therapy practice. From 2001 to 2011, Roque Gerald devoted the bulk of his professional efforts to Washington, D.C.-based Child and Family Services Agency, where today he previously served as Director. In this capacity, Gerald oversaw a staff in excess of 800 professionals, services to more than 4,000 children across D.C., and an annual budget of $300 million. Recognized for his contributions to regional, state, and national charitable institutions, Roque Gerald has volunteered his time, energy, and resources to benefit education, community health, social welfare, and child protection organizations. At present, Roque Gerald plays a key role as Senior Vice President of Education Practice at Fedcap focused on "Changing the Story" for youth in care. He oversees a national platform and ensuring more and more youth in foster care get into college and suceed. Roque Gerald lives and works in the greater Washington, D.C. metropolitan area.
