SEIU-UHW

Oakland, California, United States

Headquartered in Oakland, California, SEIU United Healthcare Workers-West (SEIU-UHW) represents more than 150,000 hospital, nursing home, home care, and clinic workers throughout the state of California. Devoted to the idea that everyone deserves quality healthcare, the union has been instrumental in helping Californians enroll under the Affordable Care Act. SEIU-UHW’s enrollment events have helped more than 11,000 Californians enroll in healthcare plans since 2013.

SEIU-UHW, one of the largest and strongest industrial unions in the country, is also affiliated with the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), which has more than two million members nationwide. The union achieved a historic success in 2012, when Kaiser Permanente union members approved a contract that collectively rewards improvements in employees' health and enables workers to serve as health champions both in the community and inside their places of work.

In addition to supporting the expansion of healthcare in California and helping protect workers’ rights, SEIU-UHW participates in a number of political initiatives, including support for an immigration process that includes a road map to citizenship.
