Mr. Salman F Rahman, age 49 is Vice Chairman of Beximco Group, one of the largest corporate house of Bangladesh at the moment with over 48,000 employees working in its factories and head offices.He is also considered as one of the wealthiest persons in Bangladesh having personal wealth of $2 billion approximately.. He obtained his graduation from Karachi University. At Present he is the Vice Chairman of the Company as well as Vice Chairman of Beximco Group of Companies. He looks after overall business of the Company. He has wide experience in other business sector. He travelled on business purpose since 1972 to UK, USA, China, Japan, Korea, Australia and other Europe and Asian countries. Presently he holds 500,000 shares of Tk. 10/- each in the Company.
Mr. Rahman is the Chairman of Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA) and the President of Bangladesh Association of Pharmaceuticals Industries. He is also the Chairman of Abahani Limited which is the country’s leading premier sporting club.
Mr. Salman F Rahman was the president of the Federation of Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) and he was also the President of SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry which is the apex trade organisation of the SAARC region.
Early life
In 1966 he along with his brother, Sohail, Rahman started business by running a jute mill, which was left behind by their father.The government nationalized the mill in 1971, which forced them to look for other opportunities.The brothers established Bangladesh Export and Import Company (Beximco Group) in 1972.They started exporting seafood and crushed bones in Belgium, France, Britain, Germany, and the Netherlands.At that time, foreign exchange control by the Bangladesh government was strict. They imported medicines with the foreign currency earned from exporting seafood and crushed bones.
In 1976,Rahman brothers established Beximco Pharma. Later on this company was listed as the first Bangladeshi company at the London's Alternative Investment Exchange.Over the years Sohail F Rahman and Salman F Rahman expanded their business in other sectors and gradually became one of the largest corporate house of Bangladesh.
