Samuel “Sam” Gerson, MD, recently served as attending physician in emergency medicine, emergency ultrasound, and diving and hyperbaric medicine at the University of California - San Diego (UCSD) Medical Center. He joined the center while working as a fellow at the UCSD Diving and Hyperbaric Medicine Program. Board-certified in emergency medicine as well as diving and hyperbaric medicine, Sam Gerson, MD, is also a certified diagnostic medical sonographer (RDMS) and member of the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP).
Dr. Samuel Gerson earned his bachelor’s degree in biology with cum laude honors from Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. He also completed a marine biology graduate program at Northeastern University in Boston and went on to obtain his medical degree from Weill/Cornell Medical College in New York City. Sam Gerson, MD, completed his residency in emergency medicine at New York Presbyterian Hospital.
As a leader in his field, Dr. Samuel Gerson served as an instructor for the fourth annual conference of the Lebanese Society for Emergency Medicine in November 2010. He also co-created and co-directed an annual three-day trauma and emergency medicine course in Spanish that occurred in Santiago, Dominican Republic, from 2006 through 2010.
