Recognizing that the well-being and emotional health of today's children is vital to the future, the Serenbetz Family Foundation has chosen to focus its philanthropic work on children. Specifically, the Serenbetz family supports organizations that help children achieve their fullest potential and nurture individual talent. Since its establishment in 1997, the Foundation has supported charities whose efforts are consistent with its mission. Beneficiaries of the Serenbetz family's philanthropy have included Horizons, REACH Prep, Waterside School, Harlem Academy, and several others.
In 2014, Thelma Serenbetz made a gift to Cottey College to support the newly renamed Serenbetz Institute for Women's Leadership, Social Responsibility, and Global Awareness. The institute aims to provide educational opportunities and role models for women through focused academic research, travel experiences, and a speaker series. In addition, the institute will provide students at Cottey College with internship experiences tied to their fields of study. Through its support of the institute's high-value programming, the Serenbetz family empowers women to develop the skills needed to be community leaders.
