Shawanda Renee Obey, MD

An award-winning obstetrician, Shawanda Renee Obey, MD, earned her bachelor’s degree in microbiology from Louisiana State University, where she was a member of the premed and biology honor societies, as well as the Delta Sigma Theta sorority. After graduating, she spent several years working as a clinical influenza research technologist at Baylor College of Medicine before enrolling in medical school at Texas Tech Health Sciences Center. Shawanda Renee Obey, MD, completed her medical training at St. John’s Hospital and Medical Center in Detroit, Michigan, where she led as chief resident in obstetrics and gynecology.

Dr. Shawanda Obey began her medical career as a solo OB/GYN practitioner in Plano, Texas, in 2004. Over nearly a decade, she provided gynecological surgical services and treatment for high- and low-risk obstetric conditions while earning recognition as one of the Top 100 Doctors in Dallas. She was also named a Top OB/GYN by the Consumers Research Council of America. From 2013 to 2015, she served as an OB/GYN contract physician and an independent risk analyst, a role in which she performed clinical risk analysis for insurance companies.

Dr. Shawanda Obey draws upon this cumulative experience in her current position as the lead OB hospitalist for the OB Hospitalist Group in Pasadena, California, where she provides obstetric treatment to patients at Huntington Memorial Hospital. She concurrently serves as a provider for the nonprofit group Community Health Alliance of Pasadena.
