Shaygan was a member of the Executive Committee of Verizon heading technology and product development at Verizon for about a decade, helping transform Verizon from a “phone company” to what it is essentially now.

After Verizon, he joined Barclays bank headquartered in London as their Group COO and a member of Barclays executive committee, where they set the course to re-invent one of the oldest banks in the world for the 21st century; a noticeable part of the current journey in financial services was set by Barclays earlier this decade. He then became the CEO for Juniper networks (a routing company). For the past 3 years, he was the chairman and CEO of Coriant, a packet optical company (predecessor companies of Siemens optical, Tellabs and Sycamore).

In Coriant, they created the premier packet-optical and mobile routing company in the world with the latest products across long haul, metro, data center, access/aggregation, end-to-end network management and SDN. Coriant was recently ranked by IHS/Infonetics global customer survey as the top supplier in TCO and runner up in "customer familiarity" with products across 17 major global suppliers.

Further, under Shaygan's leadership Coriant created the industry leapfrog HCA - Hyperscale Carrier Architecture - by meshing the best of hyperscale data center with the best of Telecom, to drive step function reductions in the "cost to carry a bit" and performance improvements in wide area networking. HCA fits all parts of the network, and is particularly fit for the looming 5g, Industrial Internet and super high-speed Clouds.

Shaygan served on the board of United States National Institute of Standards & Technology (NIST), and is on the Cornell University advisory board for the college of engineering. In 2007, he was elected to the global CIO Hall of Fame, and in 1990 to the leading group of young engineers by the US Academy of Engineering. He is on the group board of MTN, a service provider with 250 million subscribers across Middle East and Africa. Shaygan was the recipient of the Ellis Island Award Medal of Honor in 2004. He received his BS, Masters and PhD in electrical engineering from Cornell University.
