An accomplished pathologist with a special interest in medical clinical informatics, Dr. Sophia Kotliar brings more than two decades of experience to her responsibilities as a staff pathologist and the medical director of the point-of-care program for the Bayhealth Medical Center system in Delaware. In this role, she guides quality improvement initiatives and provides pathology services at medical facilities such as Kent General Hospital and Milford Memorial Hospital. Dr. Sophia Kotliar also serves Bayhealth as the medical director of point of care and clinical chemistry and as a member of several hospital committees.
Dr. Sophia Kotliar also stands out for her leadership role with Bayhealth’s clinical informatics initiatives. She most recently spearheaded the institution’s implementation of the Epic electronic health record (EHR) system as a member of the Epic hospital operations steering committee and the Epic ambulatory steering committee. In these positions, Dr. Kotliar draws on extensive proficiencies with Epic systems and training received while earning certification as an Epic Physician Builder.
Dr. Sophia Kotliar holds a bachelor of arts in biology from Rutgers University and a doctor of medicine from Robert Wood Johnson Medical School- University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. She completed her postdoctoral education with fellowships in surgical pathology and cytopathology at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, and has completed medical informatics studies through Oregon Health & Science University.
