Spencer Wharton

Counselor-in-Training in Spokane, Washington, United States

I know, I know, every 20-something claims to be a nerd these days, but I think I'm justified. By sixth grade, I'd checked out the same book on HTML so many times the librarians were rolling their eyes at me. I got my first copy of Photoshop when I was 12, and I promptly edited a picture of myself so I was leaping over red-hot lava.

From digital photography and graphic design to blogging and social media, I've been practicing my "nerdy" skills for years. I'm particularly passionate about design and human relationships--both online and off.

In my professional work, I've set up a stylish new website for a study abroad program, written and organized a 12-day email marketing campaign, and built an employee training manual. I've designed digital and print materials to promote a professional and consistent brand identity, and curated daily social media streams.

Until recently, I worked one-on-one with students at Whitman College to help them find technological solutions that help them overcome their academic challenges. I also redesigned and streamlined my office's website.

Since September 2015, I've been enrolled in a graduate program at Gonzaga University, training to be a mental health counselor. A counseling career will allow me to exercise my strong relationship skills in pursuit of helping people.

When left to my own devices, I've been known to blog, draw, design manuals for party games, geek out about design (of all different stripes), and play video games.
