Spider Montgomery is an American writer living in Spain. She has written commercially and creatively for television, film, radio, web and print publications.

Her story "The Rabbit Chase" (Kiss Me Goodnight, Siren Books) was called "breathtaking" and she is the two-time winner of the Coyote Trickster Fiction Award (Icarus). She has been invited to read her screenplays and fiction at Sheldon Studios, the Writer's Voice and KGB Bar among other noted literary venues in New York City. She wrote and directed the short narrative film "In Vivo" (16mm), which was sound mixed by seven-time Grammy award winning engineer/producer Elliot Scheiner. The film received production support from Fractured Atlas and the NEA.

She was commissioned to write a feature length screenplay Down the Middle (PG-13 Comedy) about baseball and rock-n-roll featuring a soundtrack of Elliot Scheiner's greatest hits, and a spinoff TV pilot "Umps". (These projects currently have agency representation.)

She has studied privately with esteemed playwright and screenwriter Irv Bauer, O. Henry award-winning author Nancy Hallinan, the Spoleto, Italy Creative Writing Workshop, Sackett Street Writers' Workshop, novelist James Magnuson, two-time U.S. Poet Laureate Billy Collins, and John Gordon Davis, best-selling author of Hold My Hand I'm Dying and 13 other novels (and Spider's fiction editor and mentor).

Critics and teachers have called her writing "portentous," "urbane" and "evocative." And "needs fine tuning!" :)

She attended the William Allen White Graduate School of Journalism at the University of Kansas and completed her undergraduate studies in English/Creative Writing (minor in journalism) at Missouri Western State University.

She makes a living as a professional writer, documentary filmmaker and digital media specialist for global NGOs and businesses. She travels widely and lives in Madrid, New York City and Wilver Dell, her farm in Northwest Missouri.

Spider has just finished the first draft of her first novel, First Glory Western Ranch. She is seeking representation for her feature screenplays The Brooklyn Riders (PG-13 Family Comedy) and The Prodigal Daughter (R-Drama).
