Kinda geeky, passionate about education, always making mistakes and occasionally learning. I don't do anything half-ass, and have an innate curiosity to understand how things / people work. I take on too much, so often I'm confronted with the question of what not to do. Things I've spent time on include ... understanding software and system architecture from a lot of angles, scalability, security, performance ... financial markets, banking, investment ... billiards, especially 9-ball ... marrying the love of my life, she's definitely made me a better person ... eclectic cookery with an obsession on flavor pairings, some based on intuition and some based on chemistry ... raising two amazing little girls, and developing all manner of games to entertain and teach them ... growing grapes, making wine, and executive level sommelier study ... finding great restaurants, some michelin, some street food, some that just feed my loving obsession with ketchup ... partnering with higher education institutions to research how to improve learning and knowledge creation ... advising educational institutions on technology and technical program curricula ... making soap ... tae kwon do, swimming, wrestling, soccer / futbol, running ... coaching technical people to help them understand technical decisions are business decisions ... being a political delegate, though now avowedly independent ... deeply researching the financial market crisis and how to dig ourselves out / prevent it from happening again ... sampling local microbrews around the world ... discovering new cities with oversharing on foursquare, and crafting a path to someday live abroad ... composing software systems from parts across language boundaries ... watching way too many movies for escape, and balancing that with reading non-fiction almost exclusively ... blogging and tweeting about food, finance, and technology
