Dear loved one,

He was six years old. Everyone knew his life was in danger. Nobody knew how to help him.

My neighbor was the mother of a small boy. If you visited us you may have heard her calling after her son, “Don’t run out into the street.” I think every parent in our neighborhood feared for the life of this child.

There came a day when I was getting ready to mow my lawn. The little boy shot across the street to see what I was doing. It was then that we noticed a baby rabbit lying in the gutter; obviously hit by a car and obviously dead. I said, “I’ll bet baby rabbit’s mom told him not to run out into the street too.’ There is no doubt that my words found the little boy’s heart because of the look of deep comprehension that flooded over his face. A dead baby rabbit spoke to his heart as nothing else on earth could.

Friend, for just a moment let me speak as if you and I were staring at the crucified body of Jesus Christ. Can you see that His hands and feet bear evidence of having been pierced with nails? Note that His side has a gaping spear wound. Know that beneath the dried blood and matted hair are numerous welts and bruises and bone-deep lacerations. Scripture tells us that Jesus Christ was beaten so badly before He was crucified that He was not recognizable as a human being. His beating was so severe that He looked like an animal. (Isaiah 52:14 NIV) He was beaten in this way, and then He was crucified. This is the price of love that Jesus willingly paid for us. Why did He do it? Jesus Christ, the God-man, took the punishment for our sins. If ever someone has earned the right to have His message heard, it is Jesus Christ.

What is the message Jesus Christ would have you hear? We have sin. Sin means we fall short of the standards and expectations that God has for us. This is why we desperately need Jesus. He died in our place. Jesus takes your sins away if you place your faith in Him. On the third day, Jesus rose gloriously from the dead. We know it is the way of God because only God can raise the dead. This is what the Bible says. This is what God asks each of us to believe. This is what I believe. This is what God is asking you to believe.

By grace alone, by faith alone in Christ alone!
