Last semester I made the very difficult decision to change my major from mechanical engineering to graphic design, and so far it's been the best decision I've ever made.
Art has always been in my life in some way, shape, or form, but I'd never really considered pursuing it as a full-on career until recently, and to my surprise I'm a lot better than even I thought I was.
From small doodles in my notebook to full-on large-scale works, I've just about done it all this year, and it has really invoked a passion for this line of work, something engineering never really did for me.
If there was one thing I'd take from my experience in both fields, it's far more important for you to find something that you are truly passionate about than to try to force yourself into doing something you don't actually enjoy
But how does this relate to writing? And honestly I’m wondering the same thing. But in all seriousness, I like to describe my writing style as similar to my drawing style—more loose and free-flowing, not your standard formal form of writing, which obviously led to some struggles in my standard formal writing class. I feel my writing is best in more informal situations; I often write as if I’m having a conversation with someone. I find it far easier to express my ideas and thoughts in this manner as well as be able to keep whatever I’m writing interesting with humor and more informal language.
With all that being said though, I’ve been continuing to try and bridge that gap between my preferred style of writing and the more formal approach I often have to take when writing papers for classes, and I feel I’ve made great strides in accomplishing that goal in my English 1102 class this year.
