The Beddow School
The Beddow School, located in suburban Washington, D.C., is a private school devoted to providing motivated students with a comprehensive, Montessori-based education. Students who attend The Beddow School take responsibility for their educations, develop a lifelong thirst for knowledge, and practice moral character, cooperation, and leadership in keeping with the Montessori tradition. The Beddow School accepts potty-trained students as young as 2 1/2, with Montessori study continuing through age 12.
Following their time in The Beddow School's Montessori curriculum, students may attend the The Beddow College Preparatory School, located on a 7-acre campus in Accokeek, Maryland. While in high school at The Beddow School, students have the opportunity to participate in numerous extracurricular activities and class trips both domestic and abroad while pursuing a rigorous academic course load. Each of The Beddow School's educators possesses a college degree and training in the Montessori philosophy.
Early education language programs focus on phonetics studies, while social studies, science, and math lessons are concrete in nature. Students are expected to spend a considerable amount of time studying independently, especially while attending The Beddow College Preparatory School. Students accepted for admission to The Beddow School must meet a variety of requirements. All students are personally interviewed, and prospective College Preparatory School students must submit a completed application form, a transcript, teacher recommendations, and a portfolio or writing sample. In addition to its Accokeek campus, The Beddow School operates locations in Fort Washington and Waldorf, Maryland.
