LOST GOLD

Los Angeles, California, United States

Project Background:

Hattie McDaniel was the first black performer to win the Academy Award in 1940 for her portrayal of Mammy in Gone with the Wind (1939). She also was the first black major radio star and acted in over 300 films (she was only credited with less than 90). This project will utilize a mostly female crew. The objective will be to connect & address the diversity issues during Ms. McDaniel's era and the entertainment landscape of today.

McDaniel's great-grandnephew, Kevin John Goff, is an actor & creative film producer in Los Angeles, California & Copenhagen, Denmark. His journey is to produce several projects on the life of his great-grandaunt and detail her many (mostly unknown) accomplishments. These projects will introduce the vast contributions of Ms. McDaniel and paint the full picture of this multi-dimensional performer and activist.
