Gateway House in partnership with the Workers Museum will be hosting an exhibition under the name ‘The Other Space’. The exhibition will be open to visitors from 18 November 2015 to 28 February 2016.

The exhibition aims to bring public attention to a group which has long been marginalized in society. It aims to empower them with their own voices, and to expose ‘the other space’ where the suffering and struggle are always the companion, and peace and joy are the ultimate goal of life.

The exhibition also aims to inspire more community based social interventions to build stronger connection betweenthe public and the mentally ill community, as well as stronger bonds within the community itself.

“The Other Space” hopes to alert the public and government to a better understanding and adequate support for mental patients in South Africa. It hopes to change some prejudiced and stereotyped views of mentally ill people. In general, it attempts to inform the South African society about ‘the other space’. A space that they should know!
