Dedicated to a career in foreign development and government service, Therese Shaheen cofounded USAsia Commercial Development Corporation before selling part of the business to begin her work in government. She then gained sole ownership of USAsia International Inc. and served the company as chairman and chief executive officer. In 2002, Therese Shaheen became chairman and managing director of the US government-established American Institute in Taiwan (AIT), an organization that advanced causes for the United States in Taiwan when there were no formal diplomatic relations between the two.

Earlier in her career, Therese Shaheen worked as a consultant for Yamatake Honeywell in Tokyo, Japan, where she held seminars and training sessions regarding matters of language and local culture for visiting executives and politicians.

In addition, Ms. Shaheen has done work for a number of other prestigious organizations including the Independent Women's Forum, The National Endowment for Democracy and the National Women's Economic Alliance.

Recognized for her international acumen, Ms. Shaheen has penned articles for publications including the National Review and the Wall Street Journal. Her work as an entrepreneur and in government has taken to her major international capitals including Taipei and Beijing.
