ARTIST STATEMENT: For me successful art offers if just for a moment, something new, something beautiful or something that at least offers a pause to the constant chatter of the brain. A nudge to the viewer, a quiet tap on the shoulder to remind us that there are spirits in our architecture, in our physical world and an infinite interest to be held within each moment. “Infinity in a grain of sand” (to maul a Blake quote). In my own work… I try to make these gentle confrontations whimsical, humorous or unexpected in some way. I have a great interest in creating eco-gentle work. Sustainability in the design and creation of work is vital - to me this means, where possible: best/greenest practices in fabrication and coatings; using materials/resources that are repurposed or recycled; and creating easy-maintenance work. I feel a tremendous, deeply spiritual connection to our earth and work to nurture that connection, through frequent hikes, my current study of healing medicinal herbs & plants, and working in my own organic garden… this time to me is extraordinarily important for staying in touch with my own sanity and in fostering a stronger sense of connection and creativity.

PUBLIC ART: I have run the gamut of Public Art projects, from entirely self-funded, highly regarded and viewed “Non-Sanctioned Public Art Projects”; to being deeply involved in administrating – community input meetings, finding and pursuing community partners and funding, Municipal codes and permitting processes; to winning competitions and completing work on time for installation. I pride myself on being able to work well with all partners in the process, being on budget and delivering on time.
