Growing up, I have always led an active lifestyle. I was in the dance studio 6 days a week and slowly started realizing that dance had to be a bigger part of my life. I began dreaming of dancing professionally. After deciding that dance was my true passion, I went on to pursue a dance degree at the University of Minnesota, and achieved my dream of dancing professionally in Los Angeles for 4 years. While I was in college, I was introduced to yoga. I immediately fell in love and spent an intense summer receiving my 200 hour yoga alliance certification. Dance and yoga have been the driving force in my curiosity of understanding the body and movement. To deepen in the knowledge of the body is fascinating to me and just kept me wanting more. I always thought of becoming a personal trainer and thought that it would be something I did later in life, until a close mentor gave me the courage to pursue it. She recommended a program at UCLA. I knew that it was the perfect fit, and after a year of studying and hands on learning, I became a Certified Personal Trainer. Upon completing the program I had the opportunity to work at UCLA, training people from all walks of life and all fitness abilities, working alongside people that inspired an understanding of functional training that would influence my training style for years to come. Everything was right on track, or so I thought. After putting all my attention on my career for so long, I came to realize that I was neglecting my inner self and not taking the time to nurture my basic needs. After letting my training and eating habits slip, my world turned upside down. It takes a toll on your body in so many ways. I knew that I need to be a role model for my clients but also find what works for me and stay true to that. I have spent the last year coming to understand the balance in life and how important a healthy lifestyle really is and how many parts of your life it encompasses. I’ve also realized it is more than just working out or eating right, it’s about listening to what your body needs and allowing that to happen every single day.
