Jaren Unykue Brooks

Detroit, MI

As a member of The Recording Academy’s GrammyU Atlanta chapter, Unykue (pronounced unique) is fulfilling her destiny as a result of self determination. Born in Toledo, OH as Jaren Brooks, Unykue has been musically inclined since age five when she began playing the violin. Her passion for music and the art of promotion has led her to become a PR professional, certified ProTools user, and social media specialist.

Unykue attended the Detroit School of Arts where she enhanced her musical abilities by taking up Symphonic Band with a minor in Music Production. During her high school career, she received the name Unykue from a close friend because her array of talents were genuinely unique. Aside from playing the alto saxophone, Unykue played the drums, electric bass, guitar, oboe, produced, wrote, and performed her own music. In 2006, she played at the prestigious Carnegie Hall in New York City. In 2009, she was crowned Detroit’s Queen of Beats for winning a beat battle hosted by Nick Speed (G-Unit) and DJ Head (producer for Eminem). In 2011, Unykue was the first female to enter into and win a beat battle at the legendary Bullfrog in Metro Detroit.

Unykue earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Entertainment Business from Full Sail University and is completing her Master’s in Public Relations. Upon receiving her Bachelor’s degree, Unykue decided to gain hands-on experience in marketing and promotions by interning with Radio One and Sony Music Entertainment. Unykue has continuously shown that she is ambitious, determined, and driven.

Unykue is currently located in Detroit, MI. Her PR agency, Unykue PR and Communications has a focus in the entertainment indsutry, providing brand development, reputation management, publicity, community relations, social media, marketing, and promotions services.
