Val Runge

A former endowed professor at the University of Kentucky and the Texas A&M Health Science Center, as well as the former John Sealy distinguished chairman of the Department of Radiology at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Dr. Val Runge presently serves as a visiting professor with the University Hospital of Zurich in Switzerland. In addition to his extensive experience as a medical educator and administrator, he has also built an impressive career, as a respected researcher and author, with an h-index of 41, equal to the mean of the h distribution for Nobel Prize winners. Dr. Val Runge’s latest medical textbook, Neuroradiology: The Essentials With MR and CT, has been available since January 2015 through New York City’s Thieme Publishers.

Since 1994, Dr. Val Runge has served as the editor-in-chief of Investigative Radiology, a diagnostic radiology journal that covers the breadth of the field of imaging and, as such, is ranked second in the world. On the editorial board of the journal are many prestigious researchers in the field of Diagnostic Radiology, including leading chairs and vice-chairs from the United States, Europe, Japan, South Korea, and China. Dr. Runge is currently organizing the 50th anniversary issue of Investigative Radiology (the journal was founded in 1966), to be published as a regular monthly issue in the fall, which will feature review articles by members of its editorial board. These articles provide commentary on outstanding Investigative Radiology pieces from the past and spotlight the critical radiology developments of today.
